Frequently Asked Questions
I’m interested in music lessons. How does it work?
At Mr Music, all lessons are one-to-one private sessions tailored to each individual student and conducted here at our facility. Most students attend a 30-minute lesson, same day/same time each week.
I’m ready. Where do I sign up?
Right here>>>> Go ahead, only good things will happen when you click this text! 🙂
Does the lesson have to be just 30 minutes, or can I take a one-hour lesson?
We find that 30 minutes once a week is optimum for most students but we welcome those who want to take hour-long lessons. In fact we currently have several students taking one-hour lessons.
Can my child take two lessons a week?
Yes! Please see us at the front counter to get everything set up.
How long do I have to take lessons? Will I be under a contract?
When you enroll, you are obligating yourself to one month at a time. There’s no long term contract. You can stop anytime but we do not refund money that has been prepaid.
I’ve never had a music lesson in my life and don’t know the first thing about music. Can you teach me?
Yes. We at Mr Music work with lots of brand new beginners as well as intermediate and advanced students. You can learn to play an instrument if you take your lessons and practice time seriously. Be sure you are serious about having fun with it too!
What if I want to take lessons on two different instruments? Can I do that?
Sure! We have students that take a half hour of piano and a half-hour of voice as an example. We’re flexible and want to find a plan that works best for you personally.
How long will it take me to learn to play?
This is a question we get asked a lot. The best answer is that you start learning from the very first lesson and the learning never ends. Having said that, we have many students who started out from scratch with one of our instructors and within just a few months have made amazing progress! Each person is unique and will progress differently. Much depends on the student’s level of desire and at-home practice habits.
Am I too old? I’ve always wanted to play an instrument but never had a chance to learn. Now I’m retired and have time, but I’m probably too old, right?
There’s no better time for you than right now! You have been successful at many things and now, with weekly lessons taught by one of our professional instructors, you absolutely can learn to play a musical instrument! Just as it is with younger folks, you simply need to decide to do it and stick with it. This means a commitment to yourself to practice regularly at home. Why not give it a shot? There’s nothing stopping you and we would love to see that big smile on your face as you play one of your favorite tunes!
Can I try one lesson to see how it goes before committing to a schedule?
Absolutely! You can sign up for one 30-minute lesson at our Standard Rate. At the end of that lesson you can let us know if you would like to continue. At that point you can set up a regular weekly schedule.
Here’s where it all starts. Your grand musical future awaits! Okay, maybe “Grand” is a bit much, but it will be really good. How’s that? C’mon, let’s do this! Just click or tap on this text and you’ll be on your way!
Do you have someone who can come to my house and teach?
No. We do not offer in home service. Mr Music provides a safe and secure place to learn music as well as the highest quality learning environment. We sincerely believe students will achieve the best results at our facility.
I’m a new beginner and I don’t yet have an instrument. What are my options?
Often, we can loan you an instrument to use during your first lesson. You will of course want your own instrument so you can practice at home. If you will be learning piano/keyboard, you don’t need to bring a keyboard with you to lessons as we have pianos in the studios. For at-home practice you can use an inexpensive electronic keyboard to get started.
We have an excellent selection of quality instruments that can be purchased at an affordable price. We’ll work with you to help you discover your best options and obtain the instrument that is just right for you!
Do you offer recitals?
Yes. Currently we have two recitals each year. We have one in the Spring for piano, voice and violin students, and another in the Fall for all other students.
